Comprehensively evaluating experimental techniques on cyclization of oligo(amino-iso-quinoline)s and successfully achieved high yield (95%) at mild conditions, which is being applied to cyclize nonconductive precursor polymer to form conductive aromatic ladder polymer.Designed and synthesized three novel substituted poly(meta-aniline)s, as precursor polymers for ladder poly(acridine)s, through comprehensively evaluating the conditions of Ullmann condensation and Buchwald–Hartwig amination. Developed an efficient cyclization method to form ladder poly(acridine)s (yield~99%) from poly(meta-aniline)s film on surface at mild conditions.Designed and synthesized fur novel isotope-labeled mass tags for a collaborative project with Prof. David Muddiman’s Mass Spectroscopy research group.Designed 62 aromatic core structures based on their calculated HOMO/LUMO energy levels using ORCA-SCF simulation.

Taught modern analytical and physical chemistry laboratory technique, including TGA, DSC, UV-Vis, XRD, FT-IR and so on. Taught statistical methods, chemical thermodynamics, chromatography, atomic and molecular spectroscopy.

Taught detailed quantitative aspects of solutions, solution stoichiometry, thermodynamics, chemical equilibrium, acid-base equilibria, solubility equilibria, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics. Taught experimental exploration of thermodynamic, kinetic and electrochemical behavior, and the basic operations of instruments, including UV-Vis, pH meter, coulometer and so on.

Taught the basic understanding of chemistry, including fundamental study of molecular bonding, structure, and reactivity; principles of atomic structure, ionic and covalent bonding, reaction energetics, intermolecular forces, precipitation reactions, acid/base reactions, oxidation/reduction processes, and introductions to organic and inorganic chemistry. Taught introduction to basic laboratory equipment and skills, and the basic rules for scientific measurements.
