I lead a dynamic team dedicated to creating institutional and systemic change by advancing racial and health equity through policies, practices, and procedures. We are working at the local, regional, and state level to provide technical assistance, collaboration support, best practices, and funding to build equity infrastructure and create meaningful change.

Co-led the California Department of Public Health's COVID-19 Equity Response and Recovery efforts including managing COVID-19 Health Equity Technical Assistance team, developing resources including CDPH’s COVID-19 Health Equity Playbook for Communities, integrating equity throughout COVID-19 policies and guidance including supporting the development of the Health Equity Metric and the Vaccine Equity Metric, and regularly engaging local jurisdictions and community stakeholders to ensure bi-directional communication.

As the second in command for the Office of Health Equity, my role was to support our Deputy and the Chiefs to be successful. This included managing operations, logistics, and the budget for the office; providing policy and strategy direction to 5 units within the office on a wide range of subjects including racial equity, climate change, LGBTQ health, and mental health equity; and providing guidance and support to CDPH senior leadership for how to integrate equity into policies, practices, and programs.

I served as staff to the California Health in All Policies (HiAP) Task Force, which brings together 22 departments. The core of this work is changing the way government agencies work together and creating an environment where health and equity is regularly and systematically considered in policy decision-making. In this role, I led the work to increase active transportation, promote healthy land use and planning, and incorporate health and health equity into state policy guidance documents and programs.I also served as the Racial and Health Equity Lead for CDPH where I launched and coordinated the Department's Racial and Health Equity Initiative. In addition to developing and leading training and capacity building, workforce equity, and communications, I advised department leadership on strategic actions to advance racial and health equity.

During my time with the City Manager's Office and in the City Council's Office I worked on a large array of issues and policies, but spent the majority of my time writing and implementing the City of Richmond's Health in All Policies (HiAP) Strategy and Ordinance and launching the City's Climate Action Plan.

As the Project Manager for Partners HealthCare I was responsible for creating a strategic plan for building a comprehensive sustainability program throughout the 12 hospital system.

As a community organizer, I worked on the ground to help ad hoc community groups fight local environmental and public health threats. I worked to recruit and support local activists while teaching them a wide range of organizing skills including: developing campaign plans, winning public hearings, fundraising, building and maintaining their group, generating media coverage, and more.

I was responsible for coordinated grassroots efforts to promote clean renewable energy. This included recruited, hired, trained and managed a staff of 20-30 to canvass door-to-door.

During the 2008 election I held a number of roles including Canvass Director and Lead Volunteer Organizer. As Canvass Director I ran a non-partisan voter registration office in Detroit, MI overseeing and managing a more than 60 canvassers. As the Lead Volunteer Organizer in NH and CO, I oversaw a team of community organizer who recruited and organized volunteers to help elect President Obama.
