DirectingStudents will learn the essentials of film directing by attending lectures regarding film history, watching scenes from various directors (various time periods), reading works by various directors, hands-on experience with actors during scenework. The purpose of this course is to encourage the students to find their own cinematic voice. The students will be encouraged to learn and master the techniques of film directing and utilize them to find their genuine artistic style. ProductionStudents will create a 4–12 minute short film (narrative or documentary) utilizing the tools they have learned over the last school year. Each student will go through the three phases of filmmaking: pre-production, production, and post-production. Course lectures and assignments will cover casting, location scouting, crew organization and responsibilities, management of the shooting day, assistant director responsibilities and set safety.
