Cad & Pdm Applications Lead
Responsible for leading and coordinating the development, support, upgrade and training of our CAD & PDM Systems within Engineering & Supply and their interface with the RNLI’s ERP business system. Drive improvement in the use of CAD & PDM applications in support of effective product definition, engineering change control and configuration. This is to enable RNLI wide end users to carry out their duties efficiently and effectively in fulfilling business objectives. Key Achievement: Acted as Project Manager for the implementation of SOLIDWORKS Manage (advanced PDM) system within the organisation, primarily for Engineering Change.
Senior Engineer (Cad)
Drive digital transformation in engineering and supply to ensure the organisation is ready to deliver and accept digital change in line with Asset Information Strategy. Provide CAD expertise and lead the way in best practice by being a subject matter expert and developing the RNLI CAD standards. Carry out design and development work and configuration change control of technical documentation to facilitate the through life product configuration of all assets and their associated equipment using the RNLI business systems and processes. When required act as a designated engineering signatory in accordance with the Engineering & Supply delegated authority. Key Achievement: Led on the development and implementation of the combined engineering change process across the E&AM delivery cells to support new product introduction & product change.
Engineer (Cad)
Provide professional CAD services in support of safe and effective assets and associated equipment, supporting the cell & project leads and team members in the delivery of work to agreed timescales and in accordance with the departments business system processes, supporting work instructions, procedures, and standards. Working closely with Engineering discipline engineers to understand the requirements of their initial designs and concepts and turn them into accurate 3D and 2D CAD digital assets. Action Engineering Change Orders (ECO) complete with changed 3D models, drawings, and bills of material, through the PDM system, in support of achieving through life product configuration of assets and associated equipment. Key Achievements: Working with a mechanical engineer, developed a production drawing pack for the redesign of the watertight doors, looking to reduce both the cost to manufacture and weight of the doors.
Designer (Cad)
Produce engineering drawings and associated documentation using SOLIDWORKS, in accordance with BS8888. Providing technical support within a small project team. Attend various sea trials, and meetings to further develop an understanding of the lifeboat designs and operational equipment. Work under pressure, to an agreed timescale, to achieve the project objects set out by the Project Co-ordinator. Undertaken Lean Training and implement these design principles in order to save 50% costs on a major component of an inshore lifeboat. Key Achievement: Produced, as part of a team, engineering shop drawings for an All-Weather Lifeboat. Introduced design changes to allow new IB1 pods to be made cheaper but with a reduced maintenance load.
Senior Designer
Responsible for creating boat interior shop drawings using SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD. Liaising with shipyards, naval architects and other companies to create the best solution to a problem. Learnt aspects of stylisation and aesthetic design to work on the interior design of a Local 4* hotel. Taking charge of sourcing fixtures and fittings and creating schedules using Microsoft Access. Working abroad at shipyards, furthering customer skills. Mentoring placement students, helping them transfer their theoretical knowledge into practical working methods. Key Achievement: Produced a complete set of interior engineering shop drawings for a £7million motor yacht.

Introduced several systems to aid the effective running of the company; Microsoft Project to manage timescales and deadlines more accurately; 3D Pro/Engineer Software for use within sales and marketing and as an interface from which to produce engineering drawings. Key Achievements: Responsible for the implementation of 3D software package as a design and marketing aid. Developed a new Stabilised camera platform which is now installed on numerous super yachts worldwide.
