Litigated, negotiated, and settled hundreds of cases. Attended court hearings, conferences, depositions, and mediations. Assisted businesses and individuals in obtaining and collecting money both in the pre-suit phase of disputes and during litigation. Pursued personal injury cases and obtained settlements, both before filing lawsuits and after filing lawsuits. Obtained damages for clients who were deprived of their employment wages and compensation. Assisted in educating and training staff and attorneys in the office and assisted in managing staff. Co-authored and edited a couple editions of the firm's handbook regarding Florida's PIP and motor vehicle laws, best practice suggestions, and key analysis of relevant case law and statutes. Researched and drafted pleadings, motions, appellate briefs, responses, and numerous other documents.

Provided effective and thorough legal research for litigation intensive solo practitioner. Drafted memos, summaries, and pleadings. Combed through the dusty files in the Allegheny County Clerk of Courts' office in downtown Pittsburgh in order to make sure we left no stone unturned when analyzing the value of a claim or case. I learned a tremendous amount from Tom including how to actually practice law on the civil side and not just talk about legal theory in the classroom.

Some of my most powerful experiences in the legal profession occurred when I clerked for Wendy Williams. My job took me into the Allegheny County jail to meet face to face with clients charged with all kinds of crimes ranging from drug offenses to 1st Degree Murder. In addition to providing these clients access to discovery materials and assistance on their cases, I spent time outside of the jail researching issues and drafting documents. Working for Wendy taught me a tremendous amount, not only about practicing criminal law, but opened up my eyes to a whole different world and the importance of an attorney when a client's freedom is at stake. In criminal law, sometimes a win is the plea bargain that requires prison time when the charges are serious enough and the evidence is unfavorable. Other times, a win is a not guilty jury verdict. Both can be tremendous victories. Often times a criminal defense attorney can get the charges dropped and a client can walk away with their freedom and potentially have the arrest expunged.

Counseling a caseload of 15-20 clients per week was a demanding job and highly fulfilling! The facility where I worked was a residential treatment center and housed 80 men that were court ordered to participate in drug treatment for six months. There were a lot of ups and downs and tons of paper work to manage, but it always seemed worth it when a client would graduate from the program and go back out into the real world with a job. Usually, 6 months before graduation they were either unemployed or on the brink of losing their jobs and potentially everything else, including their lives.
