Graduate Research Project Developer
Project EPIDEMIA: • Lead developer role doing full-stack development work creating a website for health officials in Ethiopia to interface with our EASTWeb project.• My work had me involved in most aspects of the project except in the development of the statistical models used.• I designed, created, and maintained the MySQL database used by the website and was the engineer behind maintaining and updating the Oracle database used by the statistical modeling team.• Project end goal is to help save lives in Ethiopia by using malaria statistics inferred from data from them along with Landsat data from NASA to create a malaria risk-by-zone forecast report and early warning system for a malaria epidemic.Project EASTWeb: • Designed a subsystem of the framework and redesigned the top-level managing component and implemented them in Java.• Wrote multiple Java subsystems and redesigned the top-level management software to be more efficient and multithreaded. Ended up being involved in testing and helping with development of most of the components.• I designed, created, and maintained the PostgreSQL database utilized throughout the system.• The EASTWeb project is a multithreaded Java application required designing a framework, and implementing it, for a system to obtain and summarize the published Landsat data from NASA. Meant to be used as a standalone project as well with the EPIDEMIA project. Tools used: • PHP, Java, AJAX, HTML, CSS, JS, JQuery, MySQL, Postgres, Oracle, BASH, BATCH, PgAdmin III, SQL.
