About Michael Deans
I am a molecular neuroscientist with a keen interest in the biological mechanisms underpinning neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disease and translational neuroscience directed at treating these disorders. I have more than a decade of experience studying cellular and synaptic function in primary neuronal cell cultures, human stem cell models and patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cell models. I have conducted research using a variety of molecular, biochemical, pharmacological and cellular approaches, specialising in scalable CRISPR-based methods for genetic perturbation of neuronal cultures. I also have extensive experience of advanced microscopy techniques including live cell and super-resolution imaging, with a focus on high throughput imaging techniques which can be combined with multi-electrode array recording to rapidly assess the phenotypic impact of large numbers of genetic or pharmacological perturbations simultaneously.
