Michael A. Diamond is Professor Emeritus of Public Affairs and Organization Studies and Director Emeritus of the Center for the Study of Organizational Change at the University of Missouri. His PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1981. He has taught graduate (MPA and PhD) courses in organizational analysis and change, organization studies, group dynamics and conflict resolution, among others. His 35 years of writing and research is focused on the nexus of psychoanalysis, organizational politics and culture. Following publication of his (1993) book, The Unconscious Life of Organizations, Diamond was awarded the 1994 Harry Levinson Award for Excellence in Consulting Psychology from the American Psychological Association, the 1999 William T. Kemper Fellow for Excellence in Teaching and the 2005 Faculty-Alumni Award from the University of Missouri. He has published extensively in scholarly peer-reviewed journals for over 30 years and has authored and co-authored four books. His article (July 2013) “Repetition and the Compulsion to Repeat: Psychodynamic Challenges in Organizational Learning and Change” is published in Administration & Society. His (2009) book Private Selves in Public Organizations (co-author Seth Allcorn), New York and London is published by Palgrave Macmillan. His new book (2017) Discovering Organizational Identity is published by the University of Missouri Press. He is a practicing organizational analyst with 35 years of experience. He has consulted with public, private, and nonprofit organizations, including several Fortune 100 companies. He serves on several editorial boards and is past-president and founding member of the International Society for the Psychoanalytic Study of Organizations (ISPSO). He is currently on the Steering Committee of the LJ Gould Center, Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR) and lives in New York City.
