Located in the DC Federal Delivery Center in Esri's Professional Services division, I support a range of customers with implementing often mission-critical GIS solutions. Much of my work focuses on the use of web GIS (web applications, feature/image services, data collection workflows, etc.) to help customers accomplish their missions. I mainly work with federal agencies including NOAA, FEMA, NASA, USGS, state and local governments, and non-profits; the projects I support focus around topics including climate change, conservation, emergency management, natural resources, wildland fires, and fire prevention. My current role has been a highly fulfilling experience where I continue to sharpen my GIS knowledge while I contribute to customers' impactful work throughout the country.

In my work as a GIS Specialist with SWCA Environmental Consulting, I performed a wide range of GIS responsibilities in support of the company's natural and cultural resource consulting. In addition to composing maps daily for reports, I conducted spatial analysis on client and resource data, configured field maps and GPS equipment for field data collection, and maintained data quality across hundreds of client projects. I also often contributed my skills in GIS to advanced GIS applications including the development of Python scripting tools, the design and implementation of customized database schema for natural resource monitoring projects and cultural resource documentation, and the configuration of customized field data collection applications. I honed my ability to approach GIS tasks with the most efficient and effective methods available in order to meet the demands of a fast-paced, high volume workload.The work I conducted helped SWCA to ensure that all clients' projects are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations. Maps and analysis I performed were integral parts to reports focused on compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, and other laws focused on natural and cultural resources.

I worked at AECOM as a GIS Specialist lending technical support to the natural resources, environmental remediation, and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) teams in the DC and southeast regions. My work included creating map figures, analyzing and managing GIS data, overseeing field teams' navigation to field sites, configuring GPS equipment for data collection, and training staff in GIS data management and analysis. Much of my work focused on supporting the writing of Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Assessments. This job challenged me to produce high-quality work in a fast-paced environment, utilizing a wide range of GIS operations to meet the needs of many projects.

Boston Harbor Now seeks to promote access and enjoyment of the Boston Harbor. My role as a GIS Fellow was to provide spatial data support to a variety of projects in the organization. Projects included communication on planning projects in the city, conducting network analysis of waterfront accessibility, spatial data support to the development of a Harborwalk Inventory web map tool, managing the organization's Library Pass program, and designing Library Trailheads for the purpose of guiding library members to access points to the Boston Harbor Islands. I also worked with Boston Harbor Now's partners, such as the National Park Service, on projects that required GIS support.

This internship falls under the Geoscientists-in-the-Park initiative, which is a collaborative effort among the National Park Service, the Geological Society of America, Environmental Stewards, and AmeriCorps. The focus of my position was on gathering field data to monitor geomorphological change in the park and prepared reports summarizing findings to help inform park management decisions. This position included the use of survey grade GPS equipment, data processing, analysis and manipulation of spatial data through ArcMap and other GIS software, and preparation of figures and reports to communicate results.
