This work often involves partnering with… Show more As the Consolidated Veteran Services Representative (CVSR) for Walla Walla, Garfield, Columbia, Asotin and Whitman Counties I work with WorkSource partner programs and external veteran advocates, to promote veterans as job seekers who can offer highly marketable skills and experience. I also assist job ready veterans and employers to establish connections that result, whenever possible, in good paying employment with benefits and career pathways. This work often involves partnering with the VA Vocational Rehabilitation Program (VR&E), WIA supported education and training programs, the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs, local continuing education entities, Business Services Teams and other WorkSource partners, Workforce Investment Act Employment Transition Coaches, local Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs), local business organizations, professional organizations, and apprenticeship programs. In addition I also assist employers with hire-a-vet, YesVets, and similar events.As a CVSR I provide intensive case management services to veterans and eligible spouses with barriers that prevent them entering into and retaining employment. These barriers may include: disabilities, lack of educational achievement and/or vocational credentialing, and homelessness. In conjunction with other service providers, I help veterans establish career plans and strategies to overcome barriers, especially for veterans with special employment and training needs. Show less

As a WorkSource Specialist at the WWCC affiliate site I have the opportunity to work directly with students helping them do both career planning and look for immediate employment. Since college students often have unique employment needs and are often at the early stage of career planning, I have had to develop new skills in providing WorkSource services. I often have to help customers balance both their short and long term career goals. I still routinely conduct both group and individual… Show more As a WorkSource Specialist at the WWCC affiliate site I have the opportunity to work directly with students helping them do both career planning and look for immediate employment. Since college students often have unique employment needs and are often at the early stage of career planning, I have had to develop new skills in providing WorkSource services. I often have to help customers balance both their short and long term career goals. I still routinely conduct both group and individual in-depth interviews, perform partial and full registrations, and reviews for job readiness, employment barriers and customer needs. However, due to the nature of a WorkSource affiliate site I am able to provide greater individualized desk side services and group activities that maximize the value of the customer’s time and availability. I still have the opportunity to deliver and/or facilitate Job Hunter series and other intensive job search workshops, both onsite and offsite for community partners organizations. Also, due to the nature of working at a college Affiliate site I am able to develop longer term engagement and greater rapport with students. This has provided me the opportunity to help these unique WorkSource customers with longer term career planning and goal setting. I still continue to provide information about the full range of agency services and programs including unemployment insurance and direct to appropriate internal or external resources and/or support services. However, working directly with a community partner organization has helped me further develop my resources and ability in Communicating and promoting our agency with partner programs and services to encourage students to make maximum utilization of available incentives and resources. I develop and monitor service plans; develop recommendations for ongoing and follow-up engagement including individualized and group activities; provide career and/or employment guidance and training information; refer customers to appropriate services and resources through WorkSource and /or partners services; provide labor market information and job opportunities and refer customers to WorkSource job orders and/or other external job openings.
