The Broomcorn Field Series is historically accurate fiction featuring three young adults who come of age during World War II. Virgil Davis, the hero of The Broomcorn Field, is a senior in high school who enlists after the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor and is selected for the most elite fighting force of World War II, the Army Rangers. Meredith Knox and Phyllis Moore, the heroines of Leaving Pontotoc County, are young wives forced to carve a life for themselves they never imagined possible once their husbands go overseas in World War II. The third book, Can We Find Our Way Back Home? (which is in process), follows the attempts of Virgil, Meredith, and Phyllis to adjust to post-War life.

The Broomcorn Field: The Odyssey Of An Army Ranger In World War Ii

The Broomcorn Field: The Odyssey of an Army Ranger in World War II, the first book of MM Gibson’s historical fiction series, features Virgil Davis, a high school senior in 1941, whose life is suddenly upended by a rapid succession of tragedies that culminate with the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor. By leaving high school early to enlist in the Army, Virgil seemingly extinguishes his last remaining glimmer of hope—to be Class Valedictorian. Yet things begin to look up for him when he falls in love with a pretty girl and is selected to become a U.S. Army Ranger—arguably the most elite fighting force of the War. But as the Rangers begin to fight across Africa, Sicily, and Italy, Virgil struggles to maintain his fragile relationship with his girl back in the States, his faith, and his very humanity, amidst the ugliness of World War II.

Leaving Pontotoc County: The Odyssey Of Two Young Women In World War Ii

Leaving Pontotoc County: The Odyssey of Two Young Women in World War II, is the story of two young wives whose world is turned upside down following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Like every other young woman of their generation, they must constantly face the real possibility that America will lose the War and their husbands will never return. In the face of such adversity, they attempt to establish an independent life for themselves that they never dreamed possible. Along the way, they encounter love triangles, severe rationing of every commodity imaginable, film noir, Greek Mythology, the legacy of the 1921 Ku Klux Klan massacre in Tulsa, loss of faith, and the horrors of the Dachau concentration camp.
