GDI was launched in 1990 by Michael Girard with the opening of Abrattos. Located next to the current Westin hotel on 5th Street in downtown Austin, the establishment quickly became one of Austin’s most popular hotspots. In 1997, Michael expanded GDI’s offerings by opening the Speakeasy in Austin’s famous Warehouse District. The popular bar/lounge is housed inside a historic (some say haunted) building. Today, the Speakeasy remains one of GDI’s most successful operations. GDI’s other ventures include the TenOak Bourbon House + Kitchen. TenOak offers a selection of fine whiskey, handcrafted cocktails and Southern style comfort food. GDI also recently added The Vaughn, a rooftop events venue. The Vaughn is an events-specific venue with a capacity of up to 350 guests.Speakeasy, TenOak and The Vaughn can host groups and private events for 10-1,000 attendees.
