Principal Research Scientist
CurrentPrincipal scientist within the Composite, Adhesives and Polymers technical area with responsibility for the coordination of a team of seven scientists.Project proposer and bid leader for several scientific research projects, including single and competitively tendered National Measurement System (NMS) projects, European Metrology Research Programme and Technology Strategy Board funded collaborative initiatives.Bid leader and current coordinator of Project ENG57 “Validated Inspection Techniques for Composites in Energy Applications (VITCEA)” won in the Energy 2013 EMRP call. I led all stages of the project proposal, including formulation and submission of PRT and SRT documents, coordination of the European partnering meeting at NPL (June 2013), preparation of the JRP Protocol submission and presentation at the decision making conference in Monaco, France (November 2013).Current lead scientist on NMS projects working towards the development of operational procedures for NDE (thermography, microwave, laser shearography) of FRP composites.Lead scientist on recently completed NMS projects focussing on the development of measurement techniques for residual stress in laminated composites and the use of optical sensors for moisture/humidity detection.NPL lead scientist on collaborative European Space Agency (ESA) project “Imaging of non-linear wave scattering in solids for NDI and granular materials”, responsible for leading NPL’s contribution on the development of reference defect artefacts for validation of non-linear acoustic NDE techniques and undertaking complementary, conventional NDE inspections.Measurement Service Provider responsible for coordinating third party measurement service work for the mechanical testing of polymer composites. Within this role my duties include regular contact with a wide range of customers across all sectors to develop solutions to materials measurement problems, ensuring prompt delivery of results and customer satisfaction.
