Installation, service, and maintenance of NMR and MRI instruments, including CryoProbes, solids (MAS, CP/MAS, DNP/LTMAS, and static), and HR-MAS probes. I have initiated a project on multidimensional solid state NMR of a > 250 kDa functional multiprotein complex involved in bacterial signal transduction, including determination of preliminary spin system assignments. I also contributed to ongoing projects on NMR methods development for temperature-sensitive biological samples and for oriented biological samples. I have participated in a multi-group collaboration on the comparative architecture of the bacterial chemoreceptor array, generating and characterizing novel reconstituted samples that showed remarkable similarity to naturally occurring arrays.I have also instructed and mentored undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory in molecular biology, biochemistry, and biophysical methods, in particular NMR spectroscopy.

I am pursuing biochemical and biophysical studies of the interaction between actin-binding proteins to actin as well as membranes, employing such techniques as light scattering, surface plasmon resonance (BIAcore) methods, biochemical assays, and small-angle scattering methods. I am also responsible for the expression, purification, and characterization of recombinantly expressed human actin-binding proteins for use in these studies.

I was responsible for the production, purification, and characterization of photosynthetic complexes as part of an effort to further understand and develop solar energy alternatives from an anaerobic bacterium.
