Too many couples in failed marriages turn to the old divorce model of hiring matrimonial lawyers and fighting it out. Traditional divorce is expensive and takes months or years to complete. The approach is inherently hostile often worsening already tattered emotions. If the attorneys who the spouses hardly know are unable to negotiate an agreement to this life-changing event the case could end up in the public arena of county court. There are alternatives to divorce litigation where the couple remains in control of their divorce. Mediation, collaborative divorce, do-it-yourself divorce and assisted do-it-yourself divorce are options that many couples are unaware of or have little understanding of. Although there are situations where a spouse needs to sue for divorce (ex. domestic violence, dissipation of assets) there are many cases where couples can remain in control of their divorce and reap many benefits by doing so. It is my goal to spread the alternative dispute resolution gospel as it applies to ending a marriage.
