Michael (Mike) Mudd is a digital trade economist providing strategic insight and opinions on policy for trade and e-Commerce, data governance, privacy, trade agreement negotiation, stakeholder management, new technology (AI, ML, ADMS etc.) compliance and technical standards. Geo focus is Asia - Pacific, Africa and the Middle East. He works with leading international consultancies, including International Economics Consulting, Actel Consulting (HK), Altair Asesores (Spain), GFA (Germany), ICF (Belgium) with funding from the World Bank, FCDO, GIZ, EU, AfDB, USAID, as well as the private sector (Microsoft, Amazon)He is appointed to JTC-1 of the ISO, working on several key IT standards working groups. He is an active policy committee member in the Hong Kong Computer Society and a member of the Government of Hong Kong’s Expert Group on Cloud Computing, Working Group on Cloud Security and Privacy. He is the chairman of Public Policy Working Group of the Middle East & North Africa Cloud Alliance, MENACA, and the Senior Digital Advisor to International Economics Consulting Limited a leading consultancy in Trade Economics.He is an active participant in APEC regional dialogues. He helped formulate the APEC Harmonisation of Standards for Data & Information Flows and gave the keynote at the APEC Cross Border Privacy Rules System, Vietnam conference. He is a board member of the Expert Group for the “APEC Online to Offline (O2O) Initiative: Enhancing SME Digital Competitiveness and Resilience toward Quality Growth” of the Small and Medium Enterprises Working Group SMEWG. He regularly comments on digital business, governance, security, privacy and trade platforms and the positive impact to development of cross border digital trade. Pro bono work includes judging the APICTA Innovation awards and serving as the chief assessor/judge of the HKIB/HKMA Fintech awards. He has created and delivered executive briefing/training on standards, technology risk, privacy and digital security for non-technical staff to mitigate losses from online banking fraud as well as CxO level guidance on the EU GDPR and security briefings on remote working outside the office.
