Conducted and managed a research project examining the viability of producing Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) on reclaimed surface mines in West Virginia. Researched Switchgrass as a dual-purpose crop: a biofuel feedstock and an economical and viable post-mine land use in accordance with the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (SMCRA). -Established and managed field study areas on four surface coal mines in West Virginia.-Conducted all field work related to the research project. Established and arranged study areas which included seeding and fertilizing. Collected soil samples annually and collected biomass samples multiple times per growing season.-Conducted laboratory analysis on all collected data. Determined dry matter yield of all switchgrass biomass samples. Determined and evaluated chemical and physical characteristics of soil and overburden material at each study site.
