Operated buses

Operate a variety of transit vehicles such as diesel and electric motor coaches, cable cars, streetcars and light rail vehicles. Essential functions include: conducting pre-operational inspection of the transit vehicle; safely navigating the vehicle through traffic along assigned routes under various environmental conditions in accordance with traffic laws and departmental regulations; operating the disability access lifts to assist persons with disabilities onto the vehicle; collecting fares from passengers and issuing transfers; checking passenger transfers, fast passes, and Clipper entry to ensure they are valid; responding to customers’ questions regarding routes, directions, fares and transfers; communicating instructions to passengers and calling out the vehicle stops and transfer points via the vehicle’s intercom system; conducting post-operational inspection of the outside of the vehicle; contacting central control regarding various emergencies; and completing accident, incident and/or miscellaneous reports to document unusual occurrences. Incumbents may be required to perform other related duties. Nature of work requires incumbents to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends; to work outdoors in all weather conditions; and to use computers. In addition, may require standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods of time; performing different physical activities such as pulling poles, resetting retrievers to return disabled transit vehicles to service; and assisting in the movement of disabled transit vehicles when possible. All operators bid for assignments by seniority. Work hours and days off may change several times per year.

* Perform a safety inspection of each assigned vehicle which includes the following:Visual inspection of the interior and exterior of the bus, tires, signs, lights, brakes,mirrors, stanchions; checks air system and cycles wheelchair lift. Reports allequipment defects immediately on the Vehicle Safety Report as prescribed by theDistrict.* Safely transport passengers along assigned routes, making designated stops inaccordance with the District's rules, policies and procedures, and the collectivebargaining agreement.* Ensure that proper fares are collected, stops are announced, and provides generalinformation to the riding public.* Professionally and effectively interacts with passengers, and assists them whennecessary.* Properly adjust mirrors/head signs and operates computerized control panels, pushbutton, door lever, and other manual and foot controls on transit vehicle. Must beable to operate and clearly communicate over District radio communications system.* Assist wheelchair patrons with positioning of wheelchair, secures safety belts andsecurement devices to wheelchair on bus.* Read maps, frequency sheets, timetables, notices, and other District materials.Complete reports on passenger counts, vehicular deficiencies, accidents, incidents,service change requests, and other reports and forms as required.* Perform other duties as assigned.

Defect analysis (gauging and visual) and necessary adjustments to machine, feeder, stacker, etc., to improve and maintain top quality.– To change or assist in changing blanks, molds, finish mold changes and record reason.– Body and finish mold changes.– Job change assistance.– Breakdown repair assistance.– Reporting to foreman or machine foreman any bad glass, bad machine conditions, or defective machine parts which he cannot correct.– Adjusting temperatures of mold equipment to feeder.– Necessary doping and swabbing of mold equipment.– May be assigned responsibility for additional equipment up to and including the point at which the bottles enter the lehr.– Keeps work area, tools and equipment clean and orderly.– Performing any other duties assigned.– Gauge weight and selected physical dimensions on complete set out and/or random sample and record using PC work station.– Requalify all cavities following major downtime.– Maintain any records or reports as directed.Completed 4 year/ 4,000 hour apprenticeship program with some schooling and on-the-job-training. Operate palletizer and depalletizer (bulk and carton), data entry and windows experience, operate pallet jacks and some forklift experience.
