I'm delighted to be seconded to Zenzic - the UK's unique new gateway for connected and self-driving vehicle development - from UK Govt's Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV). I've been working on the UK's CAV testing infrastructure for the past three years so it is a real pleasure to help deliver something that I've had a leading role in designing.

I jointly led the establishment of CCAV, an ambitious joint policy unit between the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy and the Department for Transport that was announced in July 2015. As part of the UK’s Industrial Strategy, CCAV aims to make the UK the one the top locations for the research, development, and demonstration of connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) technologies. I run the £100 million CAV testing infrastructure programme, matched by industry to £200 million. As part of this programme, I led,o Creation of MERIDIAN Mobility Technology, the industry-led “CAV hub” for the coordination and promotion of the UK’s national CAV capabilities.o Delivery of the first £51 million competition, featuring four winning projects upgrading and integrating several of the UK’s world-leading testing facilities to create an end-to-end testing offer across virtual, controlled, and public (real-life) testing environments.I also lead development of the "UK Offer" in the CAV sector, working closely with industry, academia, and international governments.

I report to the Cabinet Secretary's Advisory Group, founded and co-chair the cross-Whitehall Emerging Technologies Community of Interest (EmTech COI), considering the UK economic and wider policy implications of the Eight Great Technologies, quantum techs, and Internet of Things. I oversee a range of high-profile areas of horizon scanning work (Work, Trust, Regulation, etc), identifying opportunities, and helping to influence futures work at the highest levels of government (e.g. Emerging Technologies).

I am leading a new programme of work on horizon-scanning that I have developed in the Strategy & Growth Directorate in BIS, with particular emphasis on Emerging Technologies, Emerging Issues, and Industrial Strategy. I am also building an internal consultancy to raise the capacity for futures thinking in policy teams, identify new risks and opportunities for the "Future of Growth" in the UK economy, and to help better coordinate/promote long-term policy development across Whitehall.
