My name is Michael Taylor and I am currently a Product Development Engineer at Ford Motor Company with Design and Release responsibility for all Front End Accessory Drive Components on the 7.3L Gas ICE engine. I am highly motivated to solve any problem that ranges from those in day-to-day life to the most complex engineering complications. I am highly passionate about motorsports and love to race as a hobby. My passion in motorsports has led to me to participate in Formula SAE as well as Baja SAE at Michigan State University. Additionally, I compete in regionally competetive kart racing events where I get to test my skills against some of the best drivers and mechanics in the country. I enjoy prepping and taking my personal vehicle, a Ford Focus ST, and a Ford Mustang GT, to the track for high performance driving events as well.

Advanced Engineering InternRoush May 2023 - Aug 2023Livonia, Michigan, United States• Conducted extended durability testing on a prototype gyroscopic stabilizer in a dyno test cell, ensured proper safety precautions were followed, performed root cause analysis and maintenance on the unit when necessary, and communicated the status of the unit to the rest of the engineering team.• Acquired ownership of a project in the renewable energy sector, identified issues through root cause analysis, effectively presented current issues and progress to my superiors, and advised project managers on how I believed we should proceed using decision tree methodology. Made essential decisions on how to achieve the success of the project through risk management, timeline management, project foresight, and coordination with other engineers, fabricators, and suppliers to ensure the project stayed on schedule and within budget. • Organized and managed a bill of materials with over 100 line items for a project in the aerospace sector, communicated with numerous suppliers, and coordinated with build shop operations to correctly allocate all materials upon delivery• Aided in the final assembly of a lunar terrain concept vehicle by applying my extensive experience with general hand tools and vehicle assembly to install the occupant restraint system, battery packs, and perform a suspension alignment. -
Steering LeadMichigan State Baja Racing Sep 2021 - May 2023Responsible for the design and manufacturing of the steering system of the car requiring a high level of collaboration with other subsystems such as suspension and powertrain to ensure our suspension geometry and connection points are optimally placed and the steering system packaging does not interfere with the 4WD system.• In charge of guaranteeing the structural integrity of my parts through ANSYS FEA studies and adjusting the design/materials when necessary to obtain the desired factor of safety depending on the criticality of the part. • Attend weekly team design reviews while presenting design progress and participating in real-time discussions to resolve multi-discipline design issues. -
Advanced Engineering InternRoush May 2022 - Aug 2022Livonia, Michigan, United StatesWorked on a total of 5 different projects in the department of Advanced Engineering that entailed responsibilities ranging from prototyping, system integration, and system validation through software analysis and real-life testing.• Test engineer/operator responsible for the setup, supervision, and operation of a dyno cell for the validation of a new sealing mechanism on a high-speed rotating assembly. • Responsible for diagnosing bearing failure resulting in the discovery of incorrect preload forces in the design. To correct, I calculated theorical preload values by creating a data set derived from a custom formula representing the relationship between fastener torque values and preload clamp forces. • Utilizing the custom data set, completed a SolidWorks FEA study and presented findings to the engineering team.• Assisted in the collection of data by using a crankshaft and static balancer to complete a Gage R&R procedure on a set of imbalanced radiator fans, helped organize the data into useful findings, and was responsible for presenting the findings to the customer and offering suggestions on how to remedy the issue.• Collaborated with engineers and technicians to build a prototype demonstration unit of a vertical-axis wind turbine with an extremely limited budget and regularly interfaced with the customer to ensure their needs were met. -
Aerodynamics Team MemberMichigan State University Formula Sae Racing Team Sep 2020 - Jul 2021Worked with a team of engineering students divided into 5 different automotive sub-systems to design, test, and validate our design of a highly advanced open-wheel race car to compete in nationwide collegiate events.• Utilized Siemens NX 12 CAD software to design aerodynamically proficient sidepods that would provide proper airflow to the radiators by implementing the concept of the Venturi Effect, which would reduce overall drag while increasing the velocity of the air passing through the radiators. • Evaluated the effectiveness of the aerodynamic elements created with NX 12 by using Star CCM+ Computational Fluid Dynamics to analyze detailed models and data which resulted in a 12.4% improvement of mass flow to the radiators in the final iteration of the sidepod.
