My working life continues with two unusual but complementary sets of skills: professional and creative writing teamed with considerable experience in community work, disability policy and training. I have watched and taken part in the disability movement in Australia since 1980 when I founded Australia's first community newspaper on disability issues. My early participation grew to include disability policy with the Government of Victoria, with a particular expertise in disability action plans, and knowledge around rural access issues. I've worked in my own small business as an editor and subeditor, as a subeditor with the Fairfax/Rural Press Group, and I've contributed to numerous print and online publications on a variety of issues, many to do with deafness and deafness politics. I'm publishing works through my imprint TUQ Publications, and continuing to work on an historical fiction novel based on the early years of the deaf community in Victoria, Australia.
