Dealt with commercial cotton merchant's, cooperative's, and commodity fund's accounts with their risk exposure, trading methods, and strategies for either hedging or speculative purposes; help create strategies for a successful hedge or position in both futures and options. Assemble, analyze research in the cotton business, write a portion of, and publish a daily newsletter, The Cotton Row Journal, one of the most widely read daily newsletters in the industry on where prices are going, what events are shaping those prices, and ideas about how to manage exposure to a market, or develop a strategy to simply profit from a potential move in values. Our success primarily coming from our daily contact with clients, and selling attributes which included email solicitation, daily phone chats, and my daily market wrap up commentary, which proved to be a successful sales tool. Traded in the cotton futures and options pit on the NY Cotton Exchange; handled mostly cotton merchant, mill, and cooperative accounts. Placed hedges during trading hours via the open outcry method; developed strategies for customers and also traded my own proprietary account. I developed a trading strategy based on averages and time spent within certain ranges to determine buying and selling decisions that was very reliable. My company consisted of myself, and three "clerks"​ who handled the phone bank, took orders, and wrote up trades while I stayed in the pit and reported market action. I wrote a daily wrap up of events that transpired each session which was widely read at the time. Directly responsible for sales, and selling of my brokerage business and trading skills; used direct sales methods as well as referrals for new business.Became on the of the largest floor traders in the cotton pit by 1989 by representing the largest merchants and co-ops; developed a commodity fund following as well with my daily newsletter about market events and traded their positions while maintaining constant contact with clients regarding action and opinions about where prices were headed. In 1990, was selected to oversee and trade out of the positions of what was then the largest cotton operator in the business, and I liquidated the firm's futures and options positions over a period of 5 days. Wrote a daily piece, "From the Floor"​ that detailed what went on during the sessions, who was trading, and what my opinion was where values were going; it became a popular part of our family's newsletter, The Cotton Row Journal, which is still published today. I also traded very actively for my own account and was successful at developing a proprietary system of handling cotton prices from a purely technical viewpoint, whereby I steadfastly stuck to rules I had established about initiating positions, managing risk on the position, and liquidating them either at a profit or a loss.
