To resolve the major issues of today, we need to develop sustainable solutions that meet our current needs without compromising those around us, or in the future. These problems are often global in nature, but require local solutions. Too often today, people work effectively on resolving unique problems but fail to address the underlying issues. This approach simply pushes those problems further down the road or worse, unintentionally creates additional ones. Implementing a truly sustainable solution resolves unique challenges with the best possible solution for all stakeholders. As an experienced Sustainability Director leading programmatic efforts in the complex healthcare environment for over 22,000 employees, I have learned that finding truly sustainable solutions requires teamwork, thoughtful consideration of other's needs, innovation, and a lot of determination. I successfully led the development of a new sustainability department, growing it into one that is nationally recognized as an industry leader, and saving millions of dollars for our organization. Through this journey I have learned that these efforts are well worth the hard work, and quickly becoming essential for any successful business.
