The Sydney Metro West project is a new 24-kilometre underground metro railway which will double rail capacity between Parramatta and the Sydney CBD, transforming Sydney for generations to come. A stabling and maintenance facility will be located in the Clyde and Rosehill industrial estate bounded by James Ruse Drive, Western Motorway (the M4), Unwin Street and Shirley Street.Inside the facility, a traction substation will provide power to the metro line and a water treatment plant will treat and recycle all wastewater from the tunnels, stations and underground facilities. The facility will also house offices, parking and storage.

This graduate placement was with the Future Network Delivery division with the Sydenham Station and Junction and South West Metro project team. Sydney Trains is a New South Wales Government Agency, forming part of the Transport Portfolio, delivering rail services to the Sydney metropolitan area. Future Network Delivery oversees the significant program of works needed to build our network and cater for future growth, working to deliver extra services and better infrastructure to accommodate future demand. This includes parts of the NSW Government’s $1.5 billion More Trains More Services program, new timetables, more than 20 infrastructure upgrades and enabling projects needed to successfully run more train services, the full integration of the Sydney Metro projects into our network and the delivery of the Rail Operations Centre (ROC).

The graduate placement was with the Tunnel and Station Excavation (TSE) Implementation Group (IG) project team. John Holland CPB Ghella Joint Venture (JHCPBG) was awarded the $2.81 billion contract in June 2017 to build the twin railway tunnels from Chatswood to Sydenham and excavate six new Sydney Metro stations. TfNSW selected Bechtel as its Delivery Management Partner (DMP) for the Tunnel and Station Excavation (TSE) Contract that is being constructed by JHCPBG. Bechtel works as part of an integrated team to support TfNSW in contracts, commercial management and project controls, engineering management, construction management, health and safety management, environment and sustainability management, project communications, and quality.
