Aegle is a next-generation replacement of traditional stop-loss (re)insurance for self-insured employers and other risk-bearing entities.

Straddled two ERM roles, focusing mainly on internal capital modeling, COVID-19 mortality impacts, and Bermuda regulatory compliance.

• Managed and grew our A&H treaty reinsurance portfolio including new business production and pricing of new and renewal employer stop loss, medical excess, and HMO excess accounts• Guided the profitability of our employer stop loss MGUs by designing and imposing underwriting and pricing protocols• Worked with executives and underwriting staff on the use and interpretation of cost curve analysis to inform medical stop loss pricing decisions, providing a degree of insight not enjoyed by our competitors• Liaised with Enterprise Risk Management to develop internal capital allocation and pricing guidelines constructed around the quantitative assessment of underwriters’ judgement of both expected future claims cost and volatility

Worked on a small team of actuaries to manage and grow OdysseyRe's Accident & Health treaty reinsurance portfolio. Together, we performed the following functions:• Produced business and cultivated relationships with brokers and vendors by attending industry conferences, calling meetings, and otherwise networking • Structured and allocated capital to profitable reinsurance deals identified through evaluation of qualitative and quantitative aspects using various analytics tools, many of which I developed and maintained• Managed and analyzed our in-force block of business, audited our MGUs, and oversaw in-house or outsourced supporting functionsDeveloped, administrated, and improved our employer stop loss pricing tool which is used by several shops to underwrite facultative stop loss cases on Odyssey’s behalf. Some notable features include:• Improvements on current industry methods such as special pooling methodology, CPD-based discount leveraging calculated on the fly, and parameters calibrated by back-testing on 15 years of detailed stop loss experience• Functionality for valuing provisions that are conventionally priced using simulation or “a hunch”, such as ASDs and the NNL provision• Innovative data-dense exhibits using proprietary cost curves, designed to clearly display all substantive aspects and metrics of an opportunity to our team
