As the daughter of a teacher and an engineer, I was possibly always slated to be an educator with an interest in tech. My life has taken me across continents, but my passion for using technology to improve health, education, and well-being has always remained. While working in education both in New Orleans and Brazil, I noticed that many of the problems we encountered in the classroom were indicative of larger systemic issues. This informed my decision to pursue a degree in macro social work where I learned how technology can be used to build community and advocate for change. The pandemic hit just a few months before I was scheduled to graduate, so I found myself doing COVID response work. The technology available to NYC allowed us to provide people with information and connect them to resources while also serving as a sobering reminder of how many inequities still exist. I hope to be able to use my knowledge and experience to contribute to companies that use technology to combat these inequities by working to improve health and education outcomes.
