About Michael Haggerty

My Federal Law Enforcement career spanned twenty two years, starting with the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the legendary/notorious (depending on your view) Metropolitan Correctional Center-New York. I then transferred to the Immigration and Naturalization Service at John F. Kennedy International Airport. There, I learned how bad our immigration system and policies are. I subsequently transferred to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Philadelphia. Most of my ATF career was served in the Arson and Explosives Group; I retired from the Senior Operations Officer position. I do not want to be perceived as conceited or pompous by listing my accomplishments; however, I will proudly take claim to having an ATF human resources policy named after me.In addition, I am an adjunct Criminal Justice professor. I currently teach Introduction to Federal Law Enforcement, which I designed and proposed to the University, which approved its addition to the curriculum. I also teach International Crime & Terrorism and, previously, Criminal Justice Research, Introduction to Corrections and The Court Process. I also served as a part time instructor at a local law enforcement academy, teaching municipal police officer and park ranger trainees.

In 1997, along with several other US Immigration Inspectors, I was one of the founding members of ESFLEA, and eventually I assumed the position of Chair of the Board of Directors [also known as the Brehon Council]. During my tenure as the chairman, I created the By-Laws, which are still in effect today. In addition, I successfully incorporated ESFLEA under New York State law, and I obtained tax exempt status from the IRS and New York State. ESFLEA is the largest organization of federal law enforcement officers, military law enforcement and Intelligence personnel of Irish/Gaelic descent or who appreciate and have an affinity for Irish and Irish American culture.

Repeated notifications to supervisors, company executives and even DCIS were a waste of my time.
