As a member of the NASA Flight Crew Operations Directorate (FCOD) Vehicle Integration Test Office (VITO), represented the Astronaut Office and other Johnson Space Center (JSC) mission operations organizations in the pre-flight assembly, testing, verification, and closeout of ISS and Space Shuttle payload flight hardware. This position was under contract with United Space Alliance.Key Responsibilities:• Managed milestones, activities, and goals for astronaut crews during the pre-flight lifecycle of each mission.• Served as the principle technical liaison between the JSC FCOD and KSC payload hardware ground processing organizations.• Planned and supervised technical hardware familiarization / training visits for astronaut crews and mission operations personnel.• Integrated the astronaut's operational and schedule requirements into the hardware ground processing flow.• Performed hands-on inspections and fit checks of flight hardware.• Analyzed engineering drawings and requirements documentation.• Manned consoles at KSC and JSC control centers during Shuttle mission launch countdown, on-orbit spacewalks, and landing convoy operations.Accomplishments:• Led VITO payload responsibilities for nine Shuttle missions as Payload Lead.• Contributed to the success of 21 Shuttle missions and 18+ ISS Increments by detecting and fixing sharp edges, discovering tool and equipment interference issues, installing crew operational enhancement items, and thoroughly photo-documenting flight hardware prior to launch.• Exceeded duties by becoming heavily involved in the packaging of Shuttle stowage hardware such as scientific experiments, ISS logistics supplies, Orbital Replacement Units (ORUs), and unique payloads like Robonaut 2.

Originally hired by Unisys.Responsibilities:• Coordinated all testing activities for mission-specific software loads for more than two years.• Authored and ran test procedures for new requirements, anomaly corrections, and standard crew operations.• Wrote software test plans and post-test reports.• Operated simulator console positions for testing simulations integrated with other facilities.• Maintained the department online simulator schedule.Accomplishments:• Developed and maintained new user-friendly versions of the most commonly used forms in the testing group.• Vastly improved the group’s regression test library by creating dozens of new procedures and upgrading all existing procedures.• Mentored several less experienced testers.• Quickly became one of the few non-astronaut motion certified simulator pilots.• Integral member of team charged with rewriting departmental operating procedures to comply with the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 3 standards.
