I started my professional career in the retail industry right after high school. Although I enjoyed working with my coworkers and customers, I wanted to do more and provide an impactful experience to the communities I worked in.Luckily, I left the industry and found my calling in property management. I started my journey as a leasing consultant then after a few years and career advancements, I was able to hone my skills to become a community manager with a great company. As anyone who works in property management will know, this industry will never give you the same day twice. Each day provides a new set of circumstances that challenges your abilities in a healthy and exciting way. This is what eventually taught me how to effectively manage and how to properly lead. Managing and leadership does not simply mean telling your team what to do and how to do it. In fact, I measure a leader's effectiveness based on how their team operates without much needed instructions. As leaders, I find it important to not only train and equip your teams with the tools necessary to succeed, but also allow your team to practice and implement what they've learned. It goes back to that old saying "give a person a fish and you feed them for a day, teach them how to fish, and you feed them for life". I was lucky enough to work with a diverse and outstanding team that valued open communication, teamwork, and accountability. This experience allowed me to focus on the multi-faceted aspects of team management and leadership. As much as I was able to teach my team, my team also taught me to be a person that people want to follow, not one that people have to follow.
