I work as a specialist Disability Coach in corporate and organisational settings, and with entrepreneurs and SMEs too. I also work as an Inclusive Leadership Coach and Disability Awareness Consultant to support change at a singular and systemic level, because everyone has an important role in tackling the additional barriers of disability in the workplace.DISABILITY COACHING: I support disabled people (and those with caring responsibilities outside of work) using a non-directive coaching process in the traditional 1:1 format and as Group Coach.Together, we identify workplace performance goals and challenges to the individual (just as we would when coaching non-disabled people) then we identify any additional barriers to success due to disability. What I hear most often from my clients is they feel safe in our work together and understood because of my own lived experience of disability. I believe in their ability to perform at their best from a place of understanding. Finding the right paths to success based on their unique way of thinking and doing is how we achieve life-changing results together.INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP COACHING: I work with non-disabled leaders and managers too, developing their awareness of how they relate to disability as individuals and the ways this might inspire their leadership and team management style. This aids the development of modern strategies for inclusive and accessible workplace policies and cultures. TRAINING & CONSULTANCY: Disability has too often been presented in the past as a deficit, via the medical or charity models. So, the work I do brings knowledge, awareness and perceptions up-to-date, whilst granting a safe place to do this work from a place of warm-hearted compassion. These trainings highlight the role every employee plays in the creation and maintenance of an accessible and inclusive workplace based on The Social Model of Disability. We do this via half or full day workshops and a 1 hour online webinar.CREDENTIALS:🎯 Certificate in Coaching by the University of Cambridge (2019)🎯 Acceptance & Commitment Coaching training with Dr Russ Harris & Dr Joe Oliver (40hrs since 2021)🎯 Group Coaching training with Dr Ana Paula Nacif, completed in 2023 (ICF-accredited 40hrs/CCE) 🎯 Neurodiversity and Coaching training with Animas Coaching, in progress (ICF-accredited 30hrs/30CCE) More information click here: www.thedisabilityforce.com. Founder, Coach & ConsultantThe Disability Force Mar 2024 - PresentEngland, United KingdomThe Disability Force alleviates the impact of disability in the workplace from three key perspectives: 1. Disability Coaching supports people through any additional challenges at work due to their disability. 2. Inclusive Leadership Coaching supports leaders to develop working cultures and policies that are disability-informed for their team members and consumer base.3. Social Model of Disability training updates the way everyone in a company or organisation think about and relate to disability in the workplace, so they can better understand the important part the play in an inclusive working environment. These perspectives can be taken individually, but if you are in a position to take all three together, this has the power to create systemic change that better supports the disabled people working within your company or organisation. Why we do it:- The disabled population makes up the largest minority group in the world, representing 1 in every 6 of us (16%). - Disabled people are the only minority group anyone can find themselves joining at anytime, as 80% of disabled people acquire their disability when they are of working-age. - In the UK, 23% of the working aged population have a disability. When you add to this people with a lived experience of disability, i.e. someone that is not disabled themselves but have a family member to support outside of work, you can see that this is a huge portion of your talent pool.- The disabled population are an important part of the economy; disabled people and their families in the UK have a spending power £274 billion, rising at 14% per annum. - Globally, that spending power is $13 trillion, and disabled people in their own right have $1 trillion each year in disposable income. - These figures show that disabled people and their family form a viable part of your consumer base too.Can your business or organisation afford to ignore disability? Let's make work better together, for everyone! -
Business & Career CoachingMichelle Scicluna Coaching Jan 2020 - PresentEngland, United KingdomEvidence-based coaching based on psychological and behavioural science. Core principles:1. Enhancing your quality of thinking via a deeper exploration of your thoughts and feelings. Together, we illuminate your business or career aspirations so that you can experience them from a vantage point beyond fears, confusion and the "shoulds" that can cloud the decision-making process. Ideas for what to do are then inspired by your highest quality of thinking. 2. Use an awareness of your core values to deepen your understanding of the meaning and purpose behind your goals. Decisions and actions that align with your core values will be more motivated, focused and fulfilling. You will also be more resilient if facing unexpected obstacles to progress too! 3. Harness the powerful present and adopt a reflective practice for sustainable progress. The present is paramount in coaching because action can only ever take place in the now, and action is how you get results. You will plan an achievable action(s) that you commit to taking in between each and every coaching session we have together. This gets you testing your ideas out in the real world as quickly as possible and also helps you bank the learning and success that comes from experience. 4. You will build trust your own instincts. If you’re looking to be told what you should do and how you should to do it, I’ll not be the right coach for you. Mentors, consultants, trainers and teachers all work by transfer of information from them to you - coaching is different! Scientifically-robust coaching studies show that developing your ability to formulate decisions from your own thinking is more effective than following the advice of others. Restraint from advice-giving is a learnt and specialised skill achieved as a part of my coaching training with The University of Cambridge. Metaphorically, coaching is helping you fish for yourself, not feeding you the fish! -
Picture EditorFinancial Times Apr 2005 - Jul 2014London, England, United KingdomIn my time with the FT, I worked across all news, finance, supplements, and features desks for both the UK and international editions. As a picture editor, I used the following skills: - Critical & Creative Thinking: My key role was to obtain the best photos to accompany copy. I employed strong analytical skills by reading all relevant copy, and researched and sourced images that drew the attention of the reader. Some articles were literal, leading me to use news and niche photo agencies, whilst others required me to “think outside the box” and use creative photo agencies for more metaphorical/figurative imagery. - Delivery-focused and technical: I was responsible for approximately 20 pages and 70 pictures per week, and in print and online editions. I also manually edited images to ensure excellent print quality on the FT’s pink and porous paper, and also formatted images for the online editions too. - Strong Communication: I commissioned and briefed photographers worldwide, negotiating fees and securing location permissions. I also leased with PR agencies daily that were both local and international. - Collaboration: I attended daily and weekly editorial meetings, representing the picture editor perspective, and collaborated with editorial, design and production teams and assistants. - Project Management: As the first dedicated Arts Picture editor, I was responsible to the daily editions and the weekend Life & Arts editions, which attest to my ability to context switch successfully and deliver upon multiple deadlines. -
Radio Producer1116 Sen Jul 2000 - Jul 2003Melbourne, AustraliaSenior Producer for "Breakfast with John Blackman,” then "Breakfast with Kathy Bedford and Kevin Hillier," and later "Drive Time with Jeff Kennett.” As senior producer, I used the following skills:- Critical thinking: showing sound editorial judgment to create show line-ups, using a strong instinct for knowing what is newsworthy and relevant to our audiences, and when to pivot for breaking news that was both local, national and international. - Delivery-focused and technical: I secured up to 12 topical interviews daily, writing the scripts and key questions for interviewees. In my time as producer on the shows above, I helped to triple the ratings by implementing a focused news and current affairs format that appealed to audiences. I also produced the daily soundbites that highlighted the big wins of the show.- Strong Communication: the ability to communicate clearly and succinctly with presenters whilst via text when on air and vocally during commercials. - Collaboration: building a strong foundation of trust and respect with on-air presenters, panel operators, and the station manager. Knowing how to capitalise on creative conflicts that lead to the best possible shows for audiences, meeting the editorial goals for the show and overall station format. working with newsreaders to deliver topical soundbites from our interviews for news on the hour, working to overall budgets with accounting teams, and the advertising team when relevant for on-air advertorials.- Managing: training and managing assistant producers and on-air telephonists. Managing regular contributors, negotiating fees and budgets.
