My legal and governmental relations practice specializes in environmental, energy, and natural resources matters utilizing experience and perspectives from regulatory agencies, the legislature, local land use, and courtroom advocacy. Representative clients include advocacy groups, community associations, environmental organizations, local governments, and renewable energy interests.

The Regional Air Quality Council (RAQC) is the lead air quality planning agency for the Denver Metro / North Front Range ozone nonattainment area. The RAQC's mission is to identify and recommend strategies that will reduce ozone causing and greehouse gas emissions, including educational programs and new regulations to be implemented by the state. The Board oversees the RAQC staff's implimentation of its mission. Past Chair of the Board 2021-2024.

I represented Senate District 17, which included Louisville, Lafayette, Erie (Boulder County), and Longmont. During that time I was the Chair of the Senate State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee, and a member of the Transportation & Energy, Appropriations Committee and Committee on Legal Services. Most of my bills focused on energy policy, oil and gas, environmental protection, civil litigation matters, criminal justice, and election and campaign finance laws. I declined to run for re-election in 2020 to focus on building my law firm.

I represented House District 12 - Louisville, Lafayette, Longmont. Areas of expertise included energy, climate change, tax policy, criminal justice, and education, with a focus on environmental advocacy. Fifty-eight bills became law (68% passage rate of introduced bills), including several first-in-the-nation bills. Served as Chair of the House State, Military, and Veterans Affairs committee, Vice-Chair of the House Finance committee, and a member of the House Judiciary committee and Committee on Legal Services.

General civil and criminal practice.

I prosecuted cases ranging from misdemeanors to murder, including sexual assaults, domestic violence, computer crimes, securities fraud, Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA) conspiracies, and health care fraud. Specialty assignments included complex economic crimes, arson, juvenile law, and grand jury investigations.

Assigned to La Plata County Court division to prosecute traffic, misdemeanor and selected felony cases from charging through appeals.
