Michael C. May is the Head of Newmark Knight Frank's Multifamily Capital Markets, Debt & Structured Finance group, bringing over 38 years of experience in the capital markets, residential mortgage, and multifamily mortgage sectors to the team. Mr. May focuses on attracting new sources of capital, corporate strategy, and business growth and development. Mr. May joined the firm's predecessor company in August 2012 as Managing Director and National Head of Multifamily lending, where he focused on expanding multifamily debt and service offerings.NOTE: Effective October 15, 2018, Berkeley Point Capital is now Newmark Knight Frank.

In addition, was a key player in the NGKF acquisition of ARA. After these acquisitions/mergers, expanded role to Vice Chairman and Executive Managing Director of Berkeley Point Capital, continuing to focus on expanding multifamily debt and service offerings for the broader Cantor organizations.

National Head of CCRE multifamily lending business. Responsible for expansion of MF leading through the development of correspondent relationships within the CMBS platform and the creation and/or acquisition of other debt capabilities including agency lending, bank correspondent lending, and insurance correspondent lending. Led the effort to expand the debt platform through acquisition of an agency platform. Upon the 2014 acquisition of Berkeley Point Capital assumed the role of Managing Director and National Head of Multifamily for the combined firms. Continue to focus on the expansion of the firms’ multifamily debt execution options as well as assist in the production and management of multifamily lending.

Served as EVP of Multifamily at Freddie Mac responsible for the operations of the business line. Oversaw 500 direct and matrixed FTEs, annual mortgage purchases of $20 B, mortgage portfolio of $100 B, a CMBS portfolio of $60B, generating annual net income up to $1 B annually. Led the restart of the CMBS market by developing a new CMBS product and successfully selling the product in 2009 and 2010 issuing over $7 billion during that time. Was a key contact with the Administration, Treasury, and trade groups to assist in defining the structure and strategy of the future U.S housing and finance market as it related to Multifamily. Served as the key spokesman for the company on all multifamily matters in the industry. Served on the Boards and Councils of Urban Land Institute, MBA COMBOG, National Multi Housing Council, and NAHB MF.

Responsible for managing an organization of 3000 FTE's focused on a portfolio of > $1 trillion in single family whole loans, > $1 trillion in mortgage pass-thru's and REMIC structures with annual new business volume of $350-700 billion. Responsibilities included customer relations, mortgage investor relations, product development, marketing, sales, pricing, automated underwriting, loan purchase, loan servicing, default management, REO operations, securities issuance, bond administration, accounting and all systems development supporting the operation.

This role evolved over time. In 1998, the Loan Prospector (automated underwriting) department was consolidated into Single Family operations and all the front end operations from contracting to purchase reported to me. In 1999 I was assigned responsibility for the development of all Single Family systems responsible for the design, development, deployment and adoption of the company's new core Single Family transactional and operational systems that transformed the company's process to an e-business environment. In 2002, I was asked to expand this role to include not only systems development but also the management of all of Single Family operations responsible for all operations associated with the purchase and servicing of single-family mortgages, as well as the operational infrastructure, technology, and organizational environment activities for Freddie Mac's single-family business.

Responsible for the management and oversight of all aspects of the Freddie Mac mortgage security issuance programs. The major functions within this program include product development, product marketing, investor and dealer relationship, cash flow engineering, issuance settlement, servicing, bond administration and Investor Tax Reporting of all pass through and structured mortgage securities issued by Freddie Mac

Responsible for management and oversight of Freddie Mac’s broker/dealer operations. The major functions within this operations include trading, sales, research, product development, operations, accounting, institutional credit and systems development. Responsible for interest rate risk management, revenue generation, customer satisfaction, and support of Freddie Mac mortgage securities .
