In 2022 I joined NVIDIA to lead their climate simulation strategy in which machine learning methods are being explored to accelerate high-resolution planetary atmosphere simulations and make them more interactive for users. I maintain a split faculty appointment as a professor and principle investigator of the Computational Clouds and Climate Lab in the Department of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine. My research is on advancing understanding of how the planetary water cycle works, and how it may change in the future, focusing especially on cloud physics and moist convection processes. My tools are a blend of next-generation global atmospheric simulation algorithms, theoretical climate dynamics, machine learning, and high-performance computing.
