Energy renovation of brick apartment buildings from the 50’s, worthy of preservation, with a costumized combined heating and ventilation facade component. The project is supposed to demonstrate how brick building from the 40’s and 50’s can be renovated without compromising their architectural value. The project deals with heating and ventilation strategy in a combined unit in the context of this specific refurbishment study case with respect to the original architecture and the renovation proposal by Erik Møller Arkitekter. The energy performance before and after, as well as indoor climate investigations performed in IESVE is used to evaluate the renovations proposals.

Participant in the project: Kenya Grain Storage. The goal is to design low maintenance, energy efficient cold rooms for long-term storage of breeding maize. My main contribution to the project was part of my bachelor thesis, and one project before that. For further description of participation, see projects section in my profile. About Kenya Grain storage:Kenyan (and other African), countries often struggle to produce sufficient crops, for some people resulting in starvation. Kenyan agriculture is often challenged by drought, caused by lack of rainwater, and insects feeding on the harvest if not stored properly. By cross-breeding grain, better and more resistant grain sorts, possessing characteristics favourable to Kenyan conditions, can be achieved. To cross breed grain, sufficient storage facilities are needed. These will allow the grain to maintain their germination ability, for an extended period of time.

During my internship at Holscher Architects, I became familiar with the architect’s responsibilities during the building process. I was confronted with the importance of user involvement during the building design phase, as a tool to design properly functioning buildings satisfying the users by considering facilities management. My primary assignments involved the use of AutoCAD, Revit, InDesign and Illustrator.
