I have been very mindful of my role as a Radiographer. I am conscious in ensuring that the environment is safe for both patients and colleagues during their time in the imaging department by working within accordance to IRMER, IRR regulations and the HCPC standards of proficiency at all times. I have been able to develop a number of skills such as working in a fast-paced environment and with a large multidisciplinary team. Having worked in two trusts I have become very familiar with IT systems such as CRIS, Medway, iPortal, Quadramed and SECTRA PACS. Working throughout the COVID-19 pandemic in my first year qualified within a large trauma centre has broadened my knowledge hugely and put me in situations where I have had to think for myself and make decisions best suited for my patients, skills that have been extremely helpful in my current role as an IR radiographer, especially when working on call.I have worked with with suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients all around the hospital both before and after correct PPE was nationally provided. Mobile imaging has played a huge role in patient management for those critically unwell, in order to avoid contamination risk associated with patient transfer. My favourite aspects of radiography when working as a general radiographer were portables and theatre where I continuously got the opportunity to closely work in a multidisciplinary team with various staff members such as nurses, health care assistants and doctors. This is why a career in Interventional Radiography appealed to me, my outgoing personality makes it easy to communicate and interact with others, while working within the best interests of our patients. With my love for angiography, vascular radiology and teamwork I feel as though I am continuously able to push myself to lean more about various procedures and am able to work in an exciting and calm environment. On calls also give me the opportunity to challenge myself as I would be the only radiographer working with two scrub nurses and a radiologist. This makes it a challenge as 'running' for equipment and operating the machine are both my roles, so knowing the procedure well and knowing the equipment needed for that procedure means that I have to be organised.I also handle the Interventional Radiology departments Twitter page for our trust, this gives me the opportunity to educate myself as well as other departments within Royal Preston Hospital, student radiographers, student nurses, medical students and members of the public about Interventional Radiology and the procedures we provide.

General RadiographerUniversity Hospitals Of North Midlands Nhs Trust Sep 2019 - Mar 2021Stoke-On-Trent, England, United KingdomI have been very mindful of my role as a Radiographer. I am conscious in ensuring that the environment is safe for both patients and colleagues during their time in the imaging department by working within accordance to IRMER, IRR regulations and the HCPC standards of proficiency at all times. Learning the various hospital protocols and policies, have allowed me to demonstrate my judgement skills when assessing the clinical justification of referrals to ensure that the benefit to the patient outweighs the radiation risk associated with the examination. I have been able to develop a number of skills such as working in a fast-paced environment and with a large multidisciplinary team. I am proud in having developed adaptive techniques when ideal positioning can’t be achieved and I have had endless opportunities to image patients with various injuries and conditions, some under challenging circumstances. While working at this hospital I have become very familiar with IT systems such as CRIS, Medway, iPortal and Sectra PACS.
