Initial job duties were to originate a centralized process for career exploration observation requests and provide the community with opportunities to get engaged inside the hospital walls. These requests and interests resulted in the creation of Children’s Healthcare Career Exploration Programs (HCEP) to encompass an organized Observer Program and Healthcare Career Information Sessions. HCEP is a unique opportunity for students to discover healthcare and for Children's to foster future professionals while still ensuring the safety and security of our patients, families, staff, and participants. Children's is able to offer an official program to the community and accommodate more requests. In my role I am responsible for the development and process improvements of the program in addition to the management of Observer Program and Information Sessions. The Observer Program provides students a glimpse into the duties of healthcare professionals and the hospital as a workplace. One of the best parts of my role is the opportunity to connect students and second career adults in the metro area. They come at different stages of career exploration, but desire the chance to see, hear, and learn more about the healthcare field. Participating in opportunities like these allows students to confirm, introduce, or sometimes alter an educational and career path. This unique program offers a valuable experience to those that are in the critical decision phase of a career path and fosters the future healthcare professionals.
