As part of my MSc Advanced Product Design course I was required to undertake an industrial placement. With my aspiration to work within a medical product orientated company within the design/engineering sector in the future I was extremely happy to obtain a placement at Invacare, a global mobility and pressure care company. During the placement with the R&D department my responsibilities included; Project management - New product introduction - Prototyping, Manufacturing techniques - Utilising SolidWorks and other CAD software (creation of assemblies, technical drawings etc.) - Drawing techniques (including assisting in the implementation of new standard protocols) - Standards & legislation - Production engineering - Tool/Mould design.The placement has offered me a vast range of additional experiences and I cannot thank the R&D team I worked with enough for taking me on during the placement and allowing me the opportunity to take the next step from University to working within industry. After graduating from my Undergraduate BSc Product Design course I felt it was necessary to acquire a period of experience within the Design/Engineering industry.
