I'm an attorney with substantial experience in corporate, health care, exempt organization, and tax matters, including lead roles in business acquisitions and dispositions, exempt-organization tax issues, hospital-physician ventures, commercial contracts, and other business transactions. I've counseled clients on corporate and nonprofit governance projects and regulatory investigations; and delivered presentations and seminars on topics including health care reform, tax and regulatory matters affecting nonprofit organizations, hospital-physician ventures, board duties and responsibilities, corporate compliance programs, and charitable giving.My practice areas include corporate and business law, health care law, nonprofit organizations, and tax exempt entities. My undergraduate degree is in accounting, I have taught both accounting and tax law in the past, and I am adept at understanding and analyzing financial information in business transactions.I'm a shareholder with the law firm of Butzel Long, practicing in the firm's office in Detroit. Previously an attorney and shareholder with the firm of Hall Render and before that general counsel of Oakwood Healthcare, Inc., a nonprofit hospital system in suburban Detroit that is now part of Corewell Health.I have served on the Council of State Bar of Michigan Business Law Section; co-chaired of State Bar Nonprofit Corporations Committee; and am active in numerous professional organizations.I enjoy all the work I do with nonprofit organizations, and in particular have had leadership roles in disability advocacy organizations on both a local and national level.
