The United States is developing robotic and autonomous systems to enable humans to explore deep space, the Moon and Mars. The Jacobs JETS contract provides services to NASA’s Johnson Space Center that includes development of robots and highly autonomous systems that can reduce crew workload and maintain spacecraft and ground habitation systems on the surface of the Moon and on Mars during long-term absence of crew.Our dynamic research and development team is building the next generation of autonomous and collaborative robots for space exploration.Duties include:- Supporting Johnson Space Center’s activities for long duration space flight- Designing and creating software used to communicate telemetry data and commands between robotic virtual simulation applications- Developing GUI 'drag and drop' HTML widgets for current software- Implementing new software functional capabilities- Implementing bug fixes of existing implementations

My project focused on TaskForce, which is a software application using a general-purpose algorithm design and execution framework that can serve as an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for complex robotic task development. I worked on fully implementing and executing front-end code compatibility restructuring (and minor back-end code updating) to be fully compatible with the recent software’s engine upgrade. This required the knowledge of both front-end and back-end complexities driving the whole application. My contributions to the project included the following:• Advance project overall completion from less than 10% to 99%• Create GUI visual prototype designs for multiple color themes / new logo design• Create scripts to ease new environment setup/execution to ensure full feature carry-over without error• Update multiple unit tests and write detailed documentation for version changes

My project involved continuing the development of software designed to support web-based customized, real-time telemetry driven visual displays for deep space habitats using “widgets” (via a drag-and-drop environment: CHISEL). The project required bug fixes of existing implementations, adding or improving features to the tool’s structure, and styling changes. Additionally, I was able to incorporate the following contributions:• Added a global header section to the application that used live telemetry data from multiple pieces of hardware and their respective environment systems• Re-worked the “line” widget that added the ability to use telemetry data to invoke dynamic, user-defined visual changes through the application’s GUI• Added several widget utility functions to reduce need for hard-coded values (as well as reduce the amount of code in general) and allow greater flexibility and generic functionality for the widget generator code• Re-styled the application’s “telemetry table” to allow for a cleaner, more-modern look• Created the “docking” and “sabatier" telemetry-driven displays implementing widgets in the CHISEL tool.• Created 74 custom SVGs available for use in the application

Provided production application support and enhancements to existing applications, and create new ones as needed. The internship task originally called for a "clean­up" of and already existing data source (Excel spreadsheet), as functionality had become so slow it was essentially unusable due to the multitude of complex macros and record data.However, after analyzing the structure of the data and understanding the mentor's desired end goal, I proposed we move the data to a relational database management system. With all parties in agreement, I was able to accomplish the following tasks:• Minimize amount of code used by about 84% by implementing knowledge of data structures and SQL• Decrease the query/search time for pulling custom data by 99.7%• Develop a parametric mass/reliability model to estimate the mass of spares required to achieve mission objectives for future long duration crewed missions• Solely create an entire front­-end and back-­end software application using an RDBMS in less than 2 months• Create a new user interface and expand the analysis capabilities• Master the use of multiple ISS databases and tools for supplemental data extraction ­ • Learn fundamentals of basic reliability theory• Structure data so that it can be ready for easy future manipulation and improvement• Enable adding/removing/editing the organizational structure of data and keyword searching• Find errors in currently used data source records and fix them (type inconsistencies, missing data, etc.) • Create over 70 custom-made high quality icons and images using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
