Profile bio

About Meghan Louttit

I am a newsroom leader who has spent the last half of my career developing new ways to tell stories - as an editor, as an internal advocate for visual storytelling, and as a leader strategizing ways to build in processes to our news desks that allow us to make this storytelling a more natural part of the report. I have a deep well of experience in leading multidisciplinary teams, mentoring reporters and visual editors, consulting on reporting and publishing stories in an ever-changing news environment, and as a project manager who can lead a team to hit deadlines. I've led teams to build out some of The Times's most visually compelling stories and high profile investigative work; and I've led internal teams to build products that help us do our work more efficiently. I can be scrappy when I need to be, but I also know how to marshal the resources of a large organization. In short, I am known as someone who can make things happen.Currently, I do this as a Deputy National Editor at The New York Times. My work is focused on visual and nontraditional storytelling. I work with our reporters and editors across the country on stories of National interest, including state laws, extreme weather and climate change, infrastructure, politics, and the unique cultures of the incredible variety of places that make up the United States. The first half of my career was spent as a reporter, editor, designer and technologist. I designed and built stories and reusable article formats that allowed The New York Times to innovate in our storytelling, and also allowed us to repeat it. I was also the Deputy Editor of Digital News Design, where I helped manage a 15+ person team that included designers, developers and art directors who were responsible for some of NYT's most ambitious and visually compelling stories. I am a three-time News & Documentary Emmy award winner (nominated 7 times) and Scripps-Howard Journalism Awards judge. My work has also been recognized by the Society for News Design, Society of Publication Designers, and the Online News Association. I have 17+ years experience in journalism, editing, digital design, tech and design talent management, front-end development and project management.

Listed skills include Copy Editing, Blogging, Editing, New Media, and 23 others.
