May 2022 - Present

Programmer Analyst Advisory/Software Engineer

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Project/dev lead role in the Global Banking & Markets Engineering (GBME) Market Risk VAR/FRTB team, currently responsible for the planning and design around the team's code modernization efforts.I led the migration of daily batch runs from a distributed Hadoop HDFS computing system to the Google Cloud platform, which gave me exposure to Google Spanner and Compute Engine. We use an internal interface developed by our Scotia Digital team to abstract away networking and setup details. The next steps are looking towards lowering cloud computing costs by optimizing our job submissions and developing a robust testing framework - this will help reduce redundant work that arises from the system integration phase.I'm also responsible for redesigning our old repositories that have grown in size over the years. The goal is to break them down into components that can be pushed to our Artifactory as libraries or Docker images; I've Dockerized many applications which helped reduce the need for manual deployments and repetitive environment setup.I created a REST service in Python3 using FastAPI + Uvicorn, which converted a legacy scheduled batch job into a service deployed via Docker. This is part of a trendy initiative to move towards microservices and away from cumbersome scheduled tasks.

Part of the Global Risk Technology - Market Risk Team, involved in developing and maintaining an application that calculates Value-at-Risk (VaR) and generates reports for middle-office users. Inputs are taken from various teams across the entire Bank and aggregated/summarized through our process.I heavily contributed to the migration of legacy environments to more modern solutions, resultingin increased performance and architecture/design flexibility. Some examples include moving from Solaris servers to Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers, and recompiling/reconfiguring scripts/apps accordingly. I also helped migrate our Sybase DB to Oracle and Postgres, and moved from manual deployments using SVN to Git with automated pipelines.I developed deployment scripts and set up project configurations for DevOps pipelines to facilitatea CI/CD methodology using Jenkins, Artifactory, and SonarQubeI co-developed and supported an Apache Airflow instance to introduce a dependency-basedscheduler that facilitated daily production runs. This framework is built off Python3 with Flask, Celery, and Postgres.I started off providing L3 technical and QA support to internal business users – responsible for handlingrequests, enhancements, and troubleshooting a multitude of team projects. After a year, I undertook a code lead role responsible for code reviews, deployment, testing, release management, and general onboarding to team projectsMy skills were loaned out to an internal Data Platform team for 8 months, which gave me exposure to technologies such as Kafka, Nifi, Kubernetes, ElasticSearch, and MinIO. I used Nifi to build ETL systems for Kafka topics to help onboard teams from SFTP batch runs to a real-time Streaming Architecture.

Associate Programmer Analyst (Co-Op)

Scotiabank

Toronto, Canada Area

As part of the co-operative program for my degree, I was required to do 2 years of internships throughout my studies. Each of my internships were done at Scotiabank, and I was a part of 3 separate teams for vastly different projects during my time. I am thankful for management assessing my potential and deciding to apply me to different tasks and allowing me this experience. This is an abbreviation of my tasks across all internships:- Extensive shell-scripting in order to automate many everyday manual tasks- Developed JUnit tests and held knowledge sessions to introduce unit testing to the team- Helped to maintain and develop internal application for users, working mainly with AngularJS and Java- Helped develop and maintain automated query tool to simplify QA regression testing- Assisted in documenting and streamlining application to comply with audit requirements- Assisted in scheduling releases and drafting instructions for release code management- Management of JIRA/Scrum pages to ensure up-to-date user control
