Demos Helsinki is a globally operating independent think tank. We believe that "Only together can we fight for a fair, sustainable, and joyful next era". In other words, the reason for the existence of Demos Helsinki is motivated by the urge for societal transformation we pursue with +300 annual partnerships.We work with companies, cities, governments, and communities worldwide, in 2019 we worked in +30 countries with +200 different partners such as OECD, UNDP, prime minister's offices of Finland and UAE, European Comission, RATP, Nokia, and City of Helsinki. A diverse set of partners is a central way for us to both get "the big picture" and to avoid biases of particular sectors, donors and political ideologies.Our unique form of employee governance has given us the possibility to go beyond typical think tanks and consultancies. In our governance, the power is with the employee membership; in other words, employees are in charge of setting the strategy as well as deploying it. This mode of governance lays the foundation of our non-profit and impact driven mission.

Unpublished, a collaborative art project exploring humanity's uncharted side. We're a team of artists who believe that everyone has a unique perspective. One that they don't usually share with others, but nevertheless is a part of the human condition. Here's how it works: We're asking people to donate an unpublished selfie, which will remain private. It can be a photo that you took for yourself but never shared with anyone else. It can be a photo that you're proud of or one that makes you a little bit uncomfortable. Once you have donated the photo – like over 3000 people already have – we will use a neural network to generate new images that are not just copies of the images that the network was trained on, but new, unique images that reflect the style of the training images.
