Matt is the horn player with the Jacksonville Brass Quintet and the Bold City Contemporary Ensemble. He has backed such greats as The Moody Blues, Pink Martini, Johnny Mathis, Dave Brubeck, Bernadette Peters, Garrison Keillor, Yo-Yo Ma, Bugs Bunny, Ariel, Elphaba, and Ron Weasley, and recorded with the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra on their Grammy Award winning première of Krzysztof Penderecki's Credo.Matt holds the positions of Second Horn with the Oregon Ballet Theatre Orchestra, Fourth Horn with the Coastal Symphony of Georgia, and between teaching fits in numerous engagements with the Jacksonville Symphony, Orlando Philharmonic, Savannah Symphony, and Charleston Symphony. During his time in the Midwest he performed with the Milwaukee Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony, South Bend Symphony, Illinois Symphony, Chicago Opera Theater, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.A dedicated teacher since 1997, Matt is currently on faculty at Jacksonville University where he teaches applied horn and brass studies. Through his private lesson studio, he has helped place students in the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra, Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, Midwest Young Artists, and all-district and all-state ensembles in several states.Previously Matt was the horn instructor at the Merit School of Music in Chicago, and prior to that was the Instructor of Horn at Oregon State University. While at Merit, he conducted the region’s only large youth horn ensemble, and in 2013 founded and administered Horn Camp, a week-long summer seminar for young horn players.
