Assignments:- Delivered an AI-powered education feature to help teachers with writing assignment instructions. Using LLMs, teacher-written assignment instructions are transformed to various styles to speed up lesson development.- Navigated the dynamic AI safety and compliance landscape, advocating for safe AI features in the Education space. Shared the knowledge gained with the broader team to speed up the compliance process for all.- Led a team of 3 to investigate and proof-of-concept company-wide AI infrastructure for future AI experiences. Forged connections with other teams to leverage their AI components and add Education-specific functionality.- Developed a robust rate limiting solution to protect expensive GPU resources from DDOS and COGS abuse.- Mentored an intern over the 2023 Summer. Guided through onboarding, gave advice for navigating their internship, helped break down work into manageable tasks, and provided detailed code reviews.NYC Department of Education AI Partnership:- Worked with the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE), the largest school district in the country, to drive a pilot program for an in-classroom AI-powered teacher’s assistant that is grounded in class materials.- Closely collaborated with engineers and PM in NYCDOE to define functional requirements and API contracts for a proof of concept delivered at the end of the school year for testing with a small population of 150 students.- Drove handing off the project and codebase to NYCDOE through writing extensive documentation and leading information sessions with NYCDOE engineering and PM.

Education App Launching:- Worked to make launching education single sign on (SSO) applications easier through their classroom context. Partnered with an existing app launching team to support teacher-curated applications for use in classwork.- Added pagination support to the application retrieval APIs to increase app support from hundreds to thousands.- Helped modernize a legacy codebase through the introduction of nullability annotations, modern SDKs for calling standard services, and refactors across the codebase to improve readability as well as code reuse.School Data Sync:- Developed a new outbound synchronization pipeline for synchronizing millions of users, classes, and other education entities in Student Information Systems into Azure Entra (formerly Azure Active Directory).- Organized a team-wide, 30 person, bug bash initiative to ensure features released on vNext School Data Sync are robust and error free. Caught over 100 bugs from the team-wide effort before releasing the feature to production.- Improved monitoring through the introduction of a service statistics collection utility as well as an on-call support bot.

- Onboarded a new school information system API to the Azure Logic Apps data pipelines. This allowed for supporting both OneRoster and PowerSchool data sources in the more efficient Logic App pipelines.- Carried out performance testing for our new Apache Airflow based synchronization layer. Delivered a findings and recommendations report for improving Airflow performance.

- Added robust monitoring and testing to a Azure Logic Apps based data synchronization pipeline.- Enabled support for OAuth 1 in addition to OAuth 2 authentication for fetching data from OneRoster providers.

Taught 5 introductory Computer Science courses to classes of 10 6th-8th grade students. Was in charge of looking after the safety and well being of all of the students, and helped inspire a passion in STEM.
