About Morgan Oatley
I am an enthusiastic molecular and developmental biologist who spends a lot of time thinking about cellular differention, pluripotency and signalling pathways.For my PhD I studied how haematopietic stem cells emerge in mammals, working extensively with mouse embryonic stem cells, single cell transcriptomics, flow cytometry and CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing.Now as a postdoc I am using mouse genetics and human pluripotent stem cells to understand epistatic relationships in cardiovascular development. Using confocal microscopy, in vivo knockout models and in vitro cell biology assays I hope to better understand the relationships between fluid shear stress, TGFbeta/BMP signalling and cellular identity.

Leveraged single cell transcriptomics and multi-color flow cytometry to identify CD44 as a cell surface marker of the earliest stage of hematopoietic stem cell differentiation in mouse embryos- Routinely used MACS and FACS to enrich, isolate and analyse endothelial and hematopoietic cells derived from mouse dorsal aorta and mouse embryonic stem cells- Manipulated levels of CD44 expression in a mouse embryonic stem cell differentiation system to understand the effect of CD44 on the endothelial to hematopoietic transition.- Profiled single cells with varying levels of CD44 expression using quantitative PCR analysis and analysed results using R coding language - Implemented CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing in the lab to generate knockout and over-expression mouse embryonic stem cell lines
