I launched a first-of-its-kind Esports Journalism at Indiana University focused on cultivating the next wave of esports journalists and raise the caliber of reporting on this rising industry. I've also developed a course focused on coverage of trending news and SEO-friendly coverage that can help reporters stand out as traffic-drivers as well as.

I worked with Enthusiast Gaming to launch Upcomer, a publication focused on esports with a secondary focus on gaming. The project included directing the branding, website, editorial direction and budget for the site and managing a team of 18 full-time staff and about two dozen freelancers. In just eight months, we managed to grow to 4 million pageviews per.

Managed two writers for the section and served as the primary feature and projects editor. My day-to-day duties included operating our social media accounts, programming the website and taking the lead on the majority of our breaking news and investigative pieces. From 2019-20, I led the group to a near-200% increase in pageviews year-over-year.

As part of a yearlong program, I worked with ESPN the Magazine as a writer, researcher and page editor; edited, reported and supervised social media for espnW; filled those same roles for the fantasy sports, esports and combat sports groups; and wrote and edited for ESPN’s MLB page. One highlight was creating a project to cover the Chicago Cubs’ World.

Worked with a team of five others to conceptualize and then create a print, iPad and online women's interest magazine that centered on video games, comics and fan fiction. Fangirl, born out of the 2014-15 GamerGate saga, is the leading voice for women in the traditionally male-dominated fandom communities. My duties include writing copy, fact-checking.

I supervised about a dozen student reporters while working as an editor and teaching assistant for the Univeristy of Missouri-run newspaper. The job included teaching sophomores, juniors and seniors the ins and outs of reporting on sports big and small, from the Kansas City Royals to the Mizzou football team or high school sports. My specialty was focusing.
