Nam Theun 2 Power Company: Environmental Consultant * Assist the Environmental Manager with review of the Head Construction Contractor’s Environmental Monitoring and Management Plan (EMMP), in particular the Site Specific Environmental Plans, and provide advice as to whether the EMMP meets Owner Requirements and Best Environmental Practice.

Managing a team of Environmental Engineers, Environmental Inspectors, and Assistants.Under my daily management the team was responsible for monitoring of Head Contractor's (HC) implementation of Owner's Environmental Requirements (OER) and HC's Environmental Monitoring and Management Plan, during the construction of the Nam Theun 2 Power Project - a 1,070 MW hydropower project, funded by World Bank, ADB and more than 20 other International Financing Institutions (IFIs) and private commercial investors, in Khammouane Province, Laos. This task included:- Review environmental correspondence and documentation provided by HC, to ensure compliance with OER and Best Environmental Practice.- Compiling environmental status information and writing/editing Monthly Environmental Progress Reports and other correspondence for approval by management.- Plan and conduct environmental inspections at the construction sites associated with the project (25 main sites and 150 secondary sites) and report findings to management. - Liaise with HC’s environmental staff, including organising and attend/manage environmental meetings.Representing the company during environmental review missions from the IFIs;Providing input to consultancies and coordinate with consultants;Liaison with environmental staff from Government of Laos;The team was also responsible, under my daily management, for monitoring of environmental impacts from project related resettlement activities, e.g. formulate contractual environmental requirements, and monitor the local contractor's compliance with these requirements.In addition to these main tasks I was responsible for interviewing and hiring additional team members and coordination with other divisions, e.g. HR, Logistics, and Construction

Writing of biannual status reports to the European Commission (Habitats Directive) and The Council of Europe (Bern Convention) regarding endangered species and taking part in the annual meeting of the Bern Convention in Strasbourg.In addition to these initial tasks, I got involved in:Amending of departmental orders due to implementation of EC-directives;Administrative handling of complaints in relation to The Watercourse Act;Advising of citizens regarding interpretation of The Watercourse Act and The Protection of Nature Act.
