As weekend manager my job is to make sure all the rentals, classes, and cruises run smoothly. This can include many different duties but mainly focuses on the sales, logistics, and billing our various activities. Along with those duties it often includes typical front office duties like fielding phone calls and answering questions. Additionally I do this while managing 3 other employees as well as a range of independent captains and instructors in order to facilitate the smooth operation of the center.

Working with Trendz consists mainly of weekly field data collection and monitoring on 629 chemical tanks on the Ventura oil lease. As a lone operator in this position I was responsible for keeping myself safe while doing field work on an active oil lease. This critical thinking skill was most apparent while in the large driving portion of the job, often done on poorly maintained dirt roads while raining necessitating the need for tools like 4 wheel drive. At the end of each day I was also responsible for doing the database energy for the 100-160 tanks I collected data on during the day.

While working for the Channel Islands Boating Center my time was split mostly between the Front Desk and on the water instruction. Front Desk required me to do your typical printing, spreadsheets and whatever else my bosses required of me, as well as helping out any community members with questions about classes and pricing. The water instruction included me teaching groups of 8-62 participants how to safely Kayak, Stand Up Paddleboard, or Sail, while also leading them on a guided tour of the harbor. In the summer there was also a day camp that ran in the summer where I worked as a Counselor. During my time working there I started by only teaching the paddle sports, and quickly moved on to teaching sailing, and by the Time I left I was teaching a majority of our new hires. Part of my job working there also involved teaching the summer day camp. My last year working the day camp I was responsible for the weekly planning and scheduling of our 8-16 kids per week. This meant that I had to develop a plan to teach these participants how to sail in 4 and a half days, and had to supervise my fellow instructors in order to make sure we stayed on time and weren't leaving any kid out. Unfortunately when I graduated I was no longer able to work at the channel islands boating center as it employs almost exclusively channel islands students.

I started working at best buy during the pandemic as I had extra time on my hands as my college education had gone all online and my job at the boating center was paused. I started there as a seasonal employee for the Christmas rush but within a few weeks I had been promoted to a part time worker. When I started I mostly worked the curbside pickup and security camera's, however I quickly started accumulating various skills that made me a very adaptable worker. Within a relatively short period of time I I was able to cover shifts in most departments around the store. At one point I was even doing digital sales twice a week while the store hired a dedicated digital sales worker. While working in digital sales I had multiple weeks where I had the highest sales numbers in the district (approximately all of southern California). While I was working the curbside shifts I was able to get products out to customers in half the average time limit, while also having the most positive survey response out of the whole store. I was also able to better manage my time and would frequently be found helping out short-staffed areas during any downtime between curbside orders. Once my school went back to in person I was unable to balance two jobs and school and decided to quit this one, as my job at the channel islands boating center paid the same while being more stimulating. When I left I gave 3 weeks notice.

I worked at there surf camp on the beach with 8-10 boys a week in the age range of 11-13 teaching them how to Surf, Boogie Board, Kayak, SUP, Archery, Rock Climbing, and other water and land activities. I also taught them about the marine environment we were in focusing mainly on the ocean currents (like how the sand gets to and from the beach and how to spot and avoid rip tides), and the Jette (the big pile of rocks at the beach that provides homes for animals and a consistent rip current). As well as dealing with all the other interesting issues when you have 10 boys living together for a week. I left when the summer ended as it was the end of season.

I worked in the Back Bay with 10-15 kids a week in the age range of 11-13 teaching them how to SUP, Kayak, Archery, Rock Climb, Zipline, Mini Golf, Laser tag, Music, Fish and other various land and water activities. I also spent some time during the day teaching them about the back bay environment we were in and how certain aspects of the ecosystem worked together. I left because the summer was over and I had to go to college.
