I like cars, so I became a mechanic so I could work on them. Then I wanted to know why they are built the way they are, so I studied to become a Mechanical Engineer.Some highlights so far include;- As a mechanic, I developed a keen eye for detail which lead to working on the VIP cars which came through the workshop.- Stripping down and rebuilding my car, in which I learnt a lot about scope creep before knowing it was a thing!- During my Advanced Diploma studies I developed an understanding and appreciation for Carbon Fiber design through tensile, burn-off and bend testing specimens, and by sectioning and mounting Carbon Fiber pushbike wheels for analysis under the microscope.- As Maintenance Controller at Kennards Hire Thomastown I was able to play a key role in helping the branch to be awarded AAAA rating for its Internal Audit, not previously attained for the previous 4 years.- As Maintenance Controller and as a casual at Kennards I also learnt the importance of working in a team, but found satisfaction in helping others with minor critical thinking and how to use, and in some cases repair, the equipment which lead to them feeling greater sense of worth and confidence.- Within my Bachelor studies I was able to work within a team to win the machine design gearbox competition.- Through my position as Team Leader of Team Swinburne Formula SAE I developed my critical thinking, strategic planning and leadership skills which lead to a more inclusive culture and successful running of the car at the FSAE-A competition and at the Sydney Competition where we came third EV overall.- During 2020 Victoria COVID Lockdown I built a moving platform racing simulator which uses actuators on each corner and has a VR headset.- Currently my experience at Multimatic Inc. has broadened my hands-on and technical skills through CAD design work in NX and making use of my existing welding and mechanical skills. Additional work on an upcoming suspension design has enabled me to excel my multi body analysis skills within ADAMS Car, with kinematic analysis and load cascading for CAE.
