Muhammad Waseem Arshad is a Membranes R and D Engineer at Alfa Laval. He possess expertise in chemical engineering, thermodynamics, carbon capture, chemical process engineering, amine treating and 28 more skills. He is proficient in Danish and English. Colleagues describe him as "I have known Muhammad Waseem Arshad (MWA) for about 10 years. MWA has recently finished a postdoc project under my supervision. The project concerned the use of nanoparticles for emulsion formation during Smart Water Enhanced Oil Recovery. In this project, MWA designed, built, and validated a new experimental equipment simulating an oil reservoir where the fluid flow behaviour on emulsification can be studied across the packed column under different temperatures and pressures. Three scientific papers have been published based on this 24-month postdoc project. Earlier, I was supervisor for MWA in his MSc and PhD projects at DTU Chemical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark. The topic of MWA’s PhD study was “Thermodynamic Modeling for De-mixing CO2 Capture Systems”. During his PhD studies, MWA carried out a tremendous amount of experimental work at DTU and at NTNU (Trondheim, Norway). The experimental data were of high accuracy and formed the main basis for the thermodynamic modeling of the system. MWA determined parameters enabling a thermodynamic model to reproduce SLLV equilibrium data in addition to heat of absorption data. To my knowledge, no other thermodynamic modelling of this type of system has been reported in the literature. Experimental and modeling results have been published in nine papers in international scientific journals and in his thesis. During his MSc, MWA completed two projects under my supervision. A project on process design and simulation using PRO/II entitled “Energy efficient synthesis and design of distillation columns”. Petroleum mixtures were used as a case study in this project. In his master thesis, “CO2 capture using ionic liquids”, MWA made a very thorough study of the possible use of ionic liquids as CO2 capture media. He performed experimental and theoretical work during this project. MWA secured maximum 12 grades in both the projects. After finishing his PhD project, MWA worked for eight months in 2014 as a postdoc in a small team, I was also a member of that team. The work was sponsored by a Norwegian company and included detailed process simulation of CO2 Capture using Aqueous Ammonia with Aspen Plus. One scientific article has been published based on this 8-month postdoc project. The various projects MWA has worked on have focused on different subjects but have all had experimental work, modeling, and process simulation as the core. I have found that MWA is quick to adjust to a new subject and take ownership of it. MWA is very proficient in English and has very good communication skills, both orally and in writing. It has been a pleasure to work with MWA in publishing scientific publications. Usually MWA works on a manuscript until it is impeccable, which makes it easy for the co-authors! MWA is creative, conscientious, highly motivated, and careful researcher. MWA is also very hard working, devoted, and caring person, and very easy to work with: I give him my warmest recommendations." and "As part of the EU funded iCap Project I had the opportunity to supervise and discuss the research Waseem was involved in. This included mainly experimental analysis which he carried out. I can fully recommend Waseem, he is self sustained and independent working. He is dedicated and manages to produce high quality data by being aware of possible pitfalls. The data he produces are more trustworthy then the vast majority of people I have met. We have several co-authored publications on the topic. I have had numerous discussions with Waseem and there is a common understanding of the scientific challenges. He manages to go the step further which is required. During the travelling we did, Waseem and I spent many hours sightseeing. He is a social and caring person you would easily be able to fit into any international group."
